The game, both on and off the ice, can get ugly quickly. Then the boiling point occurs seconds before the end of the second phase. DALLAS – Game 3 between the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights was eye-opening both on and off the ice.
It gets ugly very quickly. Less than two minutes later, captain Jamie Benn received a five-minute penalty for a serious foul while checking the neck of Golden Knights captain Mark Stone. Ben was kicked out. Already up 1-0, Vegas scored twice on Benn’s layup to open a huge gap with just 7:10 left.
Jack Ettinger was pulled from the goal after the third and was replaced by Scott Wedgwood. Vegas took the lead midway through the second quarter, and resistance snowballed into the stands seconds before the clock hit 0:00. Max Domi tangled with Vegas with 21 seconds left and was assessed a clock foul and a 10-minute foul. This is a favorite spot for American Airlines Center fans. Collective scandals engulfed the arena, with individual fans throwing drinks, food and glowing wristbands onto the ice. The PA announcer is quick to warn the fans not to pelt the ice, which serves the same purpose as telling a rebellious teenager not to do something.
In what many online described as embarrassing, many of the star’s fans followed suit and threw gravel onto the ice. Arena workers began cleaning up the debris and the game was suspended until the second half. The final 21 seconds of the second quarter are played after halftime, followed by the start of the third quarter. Las Vegas goaltender Adin Hill was also pelted with popcorn when he came onto the ice after the second half.
Dallas went 4-0 and lost the series against Vegas 3-0. Benn did not take media interviews after the game. He was defended by head coach Pete DeBoer and Benn’s teammates after the game. “Let’s put it this way. [Ben] was wrong,” DeBoer said. “He’s upset, nobody in the building is more upset than him. He’s been a leader here his whole career. He leads by example both on and off the ice. He was wrong. Luckily Mark Stone is fine and we have to live with the consequences. The result is a big gap. I don’t want to stand here tonight and go on. This is not good for anyone. “
“Jamie is one of the best captains in the league and a top leader in the league. We lost as a team tonight,” Taylor Seguin added.
Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Thursday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
